Effydral

Effervescent tablet

Veterinary Electrolyte

COMPOSITION: It is a plain white, round effervescent tablet containing 2.34 g sodium chloride, 1.12 g potassium chloride, 6.72 g sodium bicarbonate, 3.84 g anhydrous citric acid, 32.44 g lactose monohydrate, 2.25 g glycine in one tablet.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Effydral is an electrolyte combination that can be used in dehydration caused by diarrhea in calves. The sodium it contains is the most important component of extracellular fluid. It ensures the correct electrolyte balance in body tissues and prevents dehydration. It helps with muscle contraction, nerve activity and digestion of food. Potassium is the major component of intracellular fluid. It helps maintain energy metabolism and tissue fluid balance. It helps muscle contraction, nerve function and relaxation of the heart muscle. Sodium and potassium are in the form of chloride and hydrogen carbonate to compensate for electrolyte losses. The absorption of sodium is accompanied by water. This regulates fluid volume, especially the volume of extracellular fluid. Sodium absorption (and thus water absorption) is increased by amino acids (glycine) and short-chain fatty acids (citrate). Acidosis, which often accompanies diarrhea leading to dehydration, is regulated by bicarbonate (hydrogen carbonate). Effydral contains lactose to provide energy to the animal. Lactose; It is hydrolyzed to glucose and galactose and is actively absorbed. Glucose facilitates the absorption of potassium into the cell. The absorption of glycine is independent of its concentration. Potassium is excreted through urine, feces and skin.

Effydral AREA OF USE INDICATIONS

It is indicated for the treatment of electrolyte loss and dehydration and acidosis due to diarrhea in calves.

USAGE AND DOSAGE

Effydral is intended for oral administration only. Before giving the solution, it should be prepared freshly using clean water and materials. Treatment should be started as soon as diarrhea is noticed. Dissolve 1 tablet (48.7 g) in 1 liter of warm water (approximately 37°C) and apply to the calf. Instead of milk or milk replacer, the calf is fed with 2-3 liters of solution twice a day for 2 days, depending on the size of the calf and the severity of diarrhea. For the following 2 days, 1-1.5 liters of Effydral solution should be mixed with the same amount of milk or milk replacer. You can then return to normal nutrition. In cases of severe dehydration, Effydral solution can be applied 3-4 times a day. If necessary, the solution can be administered through a stomach tube. Normally calves can be fed Effydral solution for up to 4 days without any harmful effects.
